Joint pain can be caused by several types of diseases, injuries or other conditions. No matter the cause, joint pain can cause you a lot of pain, and even take away your independence. The pain can cause you to limit your mobility. If you lose your mobility this is what will take away your independence.

Treating the pain is generally an easy task, but the cause must be treated as well. If you had an injury, that is usually an obvious cause for the joint pain. If there has been no injury it is not so easy to diagnose. If there is fever associated with the joint pain this could be an indication of a serious illness.

Fibromyalgia is an acute chronic pain disorder that causes joint pain to several parts of the body. Depression can often manifest as physical pain. In Fibromyalgia pain management is often required. Sometimes, while one is suffering from emotional depression, they may also coincidentally suffer from back pain, joint pain and abdominal pain among other physical symptoms.

If an infection is the cause, you will receive antibiotic therapy as well as a pain reliever until the infection subsides. Physical therapy is not usually indicated unless it was a long term infection or one that caused some breakdown within the joint.

Arthritis is also a major cause of joint pain, especially in people older than 45. Arthritis can be caused by several things including overuse of the joint, sports injuries, and deterioration of the joints due to aging. There are treatments that can help or turn around the damage and pain that have been caused. Your doctor will prescribe your treatment plan. Some things you can expect might include physical therapy, pain medication, surgery, or even total loss of use in that joint (this is rare).

In some cases degeneration due to age or disease can be devastating to a person. The joints and the cartridge in the joints break down, and surgery may be an option. This can be a good option for many, and physical therapy will be required after the joint replacement. Hip and knee replacement surgeries are quite common these days and are just as safe as other surgeries. These can give you back your mobility and independence. You will be able to move better with a new joint, and the pain should disappear.

Do not ignore joint pain, as it can become chronic pain, and the longer it goes on the worse a treatable condition can become. This can also mean more joint damage, or even a disease that can spread throughout the body. It can also mean total loss of you use of that joint. Keep your independence by being diligent about any unusual pains that you have and reporting them to your physician for treatment.
