For countless fitness aficionados sweating it out at fitness gyms everywhere, developing great looking abdominals can be extremely frustrating. People trying to trim down and get a washboard stomach discover that belly fat is usually the most stubborn to eliminate. The reason for this is because our bodies have a tendency to accumulate fat around the thighs, buttocks, and stomach.
A very small percentage of guys that hit the gym start pumping iron just to get big. An overwhelming majority want to get buffed AND lean. At least lean enough that their muscles (especially in the abs) are well-defined and visible. The time it takes to accomplish getting visible muscles and a shredded midsection can be overwhelmingly long because of our physiology however. Certainly one can’t have a beach body six-pack in a month’s time.
Having basic knowledge on our metabolism- which exercises and foods increase and decrease its process can help in figuring out how to get abs that look great. It can significantly shorten the hours logged in the gym and lengthen quality time with the family or the less strenuous activities in our lives.
Knowing what to eat and which ab exercises to do won’t give you instant effects of course, but being informed about what you’re doing would take far less time to get a shredded gut than if you went about pumping iron blindly and gulping down water and crackers for your meals.
Eating smartly by choosing where you get your calories and scheduling meals and snacks (yes, snacks) can help shorten the path to six pack abs. When eating the right food, experts say eating several times throughout the day is actually better than trying to cut calories by skipping meals. Our metabolic rate slows down when we’re hungry, ergo slower fat loss.
Eating fresh fruits and nuts instead of the greasy chips and fries at the local drive-thru can do a world of difference in the fight against The Flab. Carbohydrates and meat, believe it or not can be effective in burning body fat as well- if eaten at the proper times.
A proper program for getting six-pack abs would be impossible without the right exercises of course. Muscle building will increase metabolism as will cardiovascular exercise that keeps the heart at the anaerobic threshold (AT) rate for at least 20 minutes. Experts say this is ideal for letting the body source most of the energy spent from body fat rather than from carbohydrates or glycogen.
Lastly- letting your muscles rest a day after working them out gives them time to toughen-up and get ready for the next onslaught. Over-training muscles will most often result in waste of time and effort and, even worse- injury.

No matter what type of pill or product, natural or synthetic, you plan to take to lose weight, you really should discuss it with your doctor first. Ensure that your health won’t be endangered in any way. In particular, if you have any other health issues that need to be discussed, do so with a doctor before trying out the latest weight loss capsules by yourself. If possible, bring a sample of the weight loss capsules you are planning to take for your doctor to examine. They usually list the ingredients in their containers which may help the doctor spot any potential dangers to your health if you take them. Make sure to discuss allergies if you have any.

Most people don’t connect “burning calories” with T’ai Chi because T’ai Chi is so slow and effortless — most of those who practice T’ai Chi don’t even break a sweat — but T’ai Chi can be a great adjunct to a healthy diet program for a number of reasons.
* Despite it’s slow and gentle pace, T’ai Chi burns about 280 calories per hour, nearly as many as downhill skiing (350 calories per hour). Moreover, T’ai Chi is very safe, low-impact, takes no equipment, and can be performed in the conference room at work during break time or even in the bathroom when you sneak off for an unofficial stress break.
* T’ai Chi helps cleanse the body of stress. If you’ve ever had a tough day and decided to drown your sorrow in a pizza or hot fudge sundae, you know that stress is a major cause of “nervous snacking.” T’ai Chi and Qigong’s deep stress-reduction qualities can help “process” stress so that you don’t have to cover it up with empty calorie snack food.
* Some of us also use food to alleviate depression. Research shows that T’ai Chi can reduce depression and anxiety. If you perform T’ai Chi when you get home from work, you can dump your stress load. Then a nice apple or mango might sound much better than a bag of chips. When you aren’t stressed, you can enjoy subtle, healthful flavors.
* T’ai Chi may help you acquire the figure or weight you want. T’ai Chi takes the emphasis off external appearances. When you do T’ai Chi the goal is to enjoy the feeling of motion and breath from the “inside.” T’ai Chi is done to specifically lose weight; it’s done because it feels good. Effortlessly you can enjoy the process of exercise and subtly begin to teach yourself that you are a worthy and vibrant being from the inside out, rather than judging and criticizing how you look in the mirror.
* Most people find that when they practice T’ai Chi regularly their metabolism becomes more effective. Studies show that T’ai Chi promotes homeostasis in all levels of our physical health. It improves breathing capacity, circulation and micro-circulation; provides cardiovascular benefit; and improves immune system responses. It isn’t surprising that our digestive and metabolic processes would function more healthfully as well by practicing T’ai Chi.
There are many good healthy diet programs, and T’ai Chi does not compete with them; it works with them. Studies show that change is stressful even “good change.” As you begin a new life with a healthful diet program, T’ai Chi may be the perfect addition to help you ease through the life changes a new diet requires.
T’ai Chi also gives you a powerful stress management, calorie-burning activity to get you through the rough spots of any diet. T’ai Chi can be done at any time and anywhere without special clothing. Rather than denying yourself foods you want, T’ai Chi can replace the old food cravings with something new, fresh, wholesome and soothing.
